From the Hercules Salon to the Queen's Chamber, via the Hall of Mirrors illuminated by royal fireworks, musicians, dancers, singers, fencers and actors are preparing to welcome you under the gilded splendour of the Grand Apartments for an extraordinary visit and show that will take you to the Gallery of Battles, where you will meet a very special guest...Baroque Father Christmas!

Dance - Hall of Mirrors

The Royal Harlequin

A great feast is being prepared in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.

Courtiers and musicians are busy rehearsing the dances for a new show. The king of the party is a gallant Harlequin, a Harlequin "alla francese" with noble manners and courtly postures.

After an introductory dance, Harlequin dances solo, with the courtiers admiring his virtuosity as they join in the choreography. This is followed by a grand festive dance, with all the other dancers joining in the fun and games. Harlequin falls under the spell of a beautiful Amazon named Isabella.

Suddenly, a bold Polichinelle arrives and defeats Harlequin, who has successfully charmed the beautiful Isabella, with whom Polichinelle is also in love! Polichinelle and Harlequin dance an energetic duet, between combat and burlesque frolics. Everyone gets involved in the imbroglio, but in the battle Harlequin loses his hat and his pourpoint is torn off...

Everyone discovers that behind the mask and costume lies... the Sun King himself ! Polichinelle bows, but the man behind the mask is none other than Monsieur, the King's brother.

All the courtiers reveal themselves, ending with two dances worthy of the finest balls ever seen at Versailles.
