Presentation
Around the poignant tribute to Henry Purcell by his teacher and faithful friend John Blow, a splendid programme of duets and solo arias from works by Purcell and his contemporaries performed by two famous counter-tenors, Iestyn Davies and James Hall. The King’s Consort proposes this essentially English concert in January 2019 (to be recorded). Among many famous compositions: “Hark how the songsters”, “In vain, the am’rous flute”, “Sound the trumpet”, “Ah heav’n, what is’t I hear”, without forgetting John Blow’s iconic “Ode on the death of Henry Purcell”.
The King’s Consort’s 1987 recording of this programme with James Bowman and Michael Chance is still a “best-seller”. 30 years later, The King’s Consort is reviving this programme with two of the best counter-tenors of the 21st century.
Iestyn Davies’s latest CD of Bach cantatas has just obtained a Gramophone Award. Iestyn is currently performing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and in Broadway with Mark Rylance in “Farinelli and the King”.
