Molière's comedy-ballets reached their peak in the decade 1660-1670 with Lully's music, which allowed the creation before Louis XIV of masterpieces as emblematic of the French stage as Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme or George Dandin, but also of comic plays whose music was an exceptional ornament, such as L'Amour médecin or Le Mariage forcé. After the quarrel with Lully was final, it was Charpentier who joined Molière for his last great creation: Le Malade imaginaire in 1673. William Christie brings together a bouquet of the two master composers of the Grand Siècle, to pay a jubilant tribute to Molière and his music. Theatre, dance and music intermingle in a celebration in which Molière, Lully and Charpentier are the great organizers, for an ultimate imaginary comedy-ballet...
