NEW PRODUCTION
The baroque period is full of wonders, some still undiscovered. After Claudio Monteverdi and Francesco Cavalli, the Italian composer Giovanni Legrenzi (1626-1690) is the third major figure of the century where opera was invented.
We know he created seventeen works of which only La Divisione del Mondo survived; it was performed to great success in the years following its first performance in Venice in 1675. The conductor Christophe Rousset, who incessantly pursues the revival of the beauties of 17th century works, will interpret this score with his ensemble, Les Talens Lyriques. For this premiere in France, the Dutch artist Jetske Mijnssen is staging a work expressing Juno’s jealousy and the dire consequences of Venus’s devastating beauty, with passion and humour.
Edition by Thomas Hengelbrock.
Coproduction: Opéra national du Rhin - Opéra national de Lorraine.
Surtitles in French and English

This concert is made possible by a generous support from the ADOR, the Friends of the Royal Opera.
