Sébastien Daucé Conductor
A forerunner in style, form and harmony, Charpentier came back to Paris at the end of the 1660s, steeped in the memory of the thousand treasures collected in Italy over five years, in concerts, encounters and discussions.
Constantly innovative, Charpentier brought 17th century France new inspiration and inventiveness and a taste for foreign sounds and forms. Starting with the first surviving work in his Mélanges, one of the first leçons de ténèbres composed in France, this programme recreates an imaginary liturgy, from evening lament to dawn service.
