If François Couperin’s two Masses for Organ are his bequest to the instrument which he played (in the Royal Chapel in Versailles and in Saint-Gervais in Paris), it would be illusory to imagine these suites of compositions for the organ were interpreted outside liturgical services: they alternated with plain-chant and vocal music.
To rediscover the splendour of a Messe Royale pour les Couvents (Royal Mass for convents) as Couperin could have called a service of which he was the sole author, as the King’s organist, Gaétan Jarry has asked Frédéric Desenclos to interpret the "Messe propre pour les Couvents" on the grand organ, keeping for himself at the head of his ensemble Marguerite-Louise, Couperin’s motets for one or several voices, which were the exceptional day-to-day (and the fame) of French cloisters and their young and brilliant soloists…
A concert for two organists, one in the gallery, the other for the continuo, to magnify the sacred, poetic and virtuoso compositions of the great Couperin.
