After L'Anoure in 1995, Snow White in 2008, Siddharta in 2010, Angelin Preljocaj continues his exploration of storytelling by choosing, as he likes to do, a path still unexplored in his work, that of the traditional Asian tales and their well-known richness and poetic force.
The Painting on the Wall plunges the reader into the fantastic world of Chinese tales and reveals the "supernatural" power of pictorial art. Although different readings are possible, the notions of illusion and transcendence are omnipresent here. Angelin Preljocaj has chosen to immerse himself at the heart of this unusual universe.
Without telling the story literally, this Chinese tale will be the source of a more contemporary adaptation. Angelin Preljocaj will keep the plot but with the power of his imagination, will transpose it in a space at the crossroads of cultures. He will of course keep the essence of the tale and its symbolic evocations.
