The Ball of the Century
From Offenbach to Mistinguett
Experience a unique evening at the Château de Versailles for the first edition of the Ball of the Century.
On June 30th 1923, the Château de Versailles hosted an exceptional evening to celebrate the end of its restoration, the Fête Merveilleuse (the Marvellous Celebration)… 100 years later, we invite you to journey from the end of the 19th century to the start of the 20th century, from Offenbach to Mistinguett, during a Ball (3 hours) in the magnificent Gallery of Great Battles.
This ball will put the spotlight on partner dances that everyone can dance, from the "tempête" (tempest or Tom Pate), "American jig", "fantasies", "Pol Jones", "Ragtime dances", Charleston and other ballroom dances that will be explained at the evening itself just before the dance starts... to the most expressive and romantic, like waltzes, the Tango, Foxtrot...
Come and dance at the Château de Versailles from Vienna waltzes to the roaring twenties.
PROGRAMME
This evening will offer you many other surprises... After you have gone through the King's Grand Apartments, dancers from the famous Malandain Ballet will welcome you for a dance performance in the Hall Of Mirrors.
In the Queen's Grand Apartments, you'll meet actors who will invite you to take part in activities like a lesson to keep your body balance, tarot readings, card games…
The musicians from the Royal Opera Orchestra will perform a short musical programme in one of the most beautiful rooms in the Château, promising to be a truly delightful interlude!
Ruby and Diamond tickets will enjoy the privilege of visiting the Attique du Midi (south attic), that will be open to the public exceptionally, where actors will guide them as they walk through the rooms.
A celebratory event at the Château de Versailles would not be one without a firework show! You will be able to admire the wonderful show from the Hall of Mirrors, surrounded by the gilding in the most beautiful room in the château.
After midnight, the Ball of the Century will start dancing to the beat of modern music in the Gallery of Great Battles for an unforgettable afterparty.
The Ball of the Century is the unique opportunity to discover the Château de Versailles as you will have never seen it!
