Alexandre Tharaud Piano

Presentation

Alexandre Tharaud has an organic relationship with Versailles, where he has been performing in concerts for a decade. The fascination of the Kings’ Palace that has affected so many composers for three centuries, has inspired him to create a programme that visits the history of music, unfolding in the most beautiful rooms of the Château. Alexandre fondly returns to baroque music through its greatest French representatives: Rameau, Lully, Couperin, Royer, D’Anglebert, Duphly, Balbastre, De Visée...

He has a true passion for these masterpieces of French baroque, and can better than anyone, reveal their surprising colours and expressive force on the piano. He invites us to discover the beauty of the French Ancien Regime style. Versailles, its both mysterious and profuse splendour, its classicism which doesn’t exclude folly, its massive grandeur which leaves no detail aside, are the result of an exceptional construction that aimed to shine all over the world, around the central figure of Louis XIV. Alexandre Tharaud explores and illuminates these musical treasures and invites us on an exceptional voyage at the heart of the Grand Siecle and its echoes, from the Opera to the Chapel and the Hall of Mirrors…where he summons Debussy, Reynaldo Hahn and Liszt – for the Marseillaise! An exceptional evening, designed to the finest detail by a major figure of French piano…: A royal experience!
