UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF MADAM ALINE FORIEL-DESTEZET
An orchestra is quite a story…or a story to build! This is the ambition the brand new Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal, created for the performances of the Ghosts of Versailles in December 2019.
Composed of musicians who regularly work with the greatest conductors, in the baroque and the romantic repertoire, the Château de Versailles Orchestra will regularly perform at the Royal Opera and the Royal Chapel.
We will also find them in different configurations for concerts during the musical season 2021-2022: for the concert The Three Countertenors et and the Castrati Virtuosity Competition, with Filippo Mineccia, Samuel Mariño and Valer Sabadus led by Stefan Plewniak, for the Stabat Mater for Two Castrati with Samunel Mariño and Filippo Mineccia led by Marie Van Rhijn, the Leçons de Ténèbres by Couperin conducted by Stéphane Fuget, the Florie Valiquette recital Opéra Comique with the collaboration of Gaétan Jarry, The Four Seasons by Vivaldi in its ballet version and concert version; without forgetting about the performances in the pit: The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart (James Grey, Gaétan Jarry), Marie-Antoinette with the Malandain Ballet Biarritz in the Queen's Theater, The Senna Festeggiante by Vivaldi.
This ensemble also performs for recordings for our Château de Versailles record label. It was the case for the performances mentioned above, as the Stabat Mater for Two Castrati CD, the Leçons de Ténèbres by Couperin CD, the Four Seasons by Vivaldi, Giulietta e Romeo by Zingarelli, and also unreleased programs as the Concertos for Paris by Vivaldi, the Destin du Nouveau Siècle by Campra or the Caractères de la danse, as well as the Senna Festeggiante which will be released soon.
The orchestra also performs with modern instruments when it is necessary for the repertoire: as it is demonstrated with The Ghosts of Versailles by Corigliano or the Gala concert with the legendary Plácido Domingo, conducted by Laurent Campellone.
You also could have seen the Royal Opera Orchestra performing more contemporary repertoires, as in Versailles sur son 31, program aired on France 2 and presented by Stéphane Bern, during which, with the help of the cellist Gautier Capucon, he signed off an exclusive hommage to the singer Christophe or accompanying the singer Mika for an exceptional show.
The Royal Opera of Versailles was first the theatre of royal and then republican life (balls and banquets for royal weddings) and over its rich history, it has hosted, operas, concerts and even…parliamentary debates. Since 2009, the performances designed for this specific venue, recreate the period where Versailles was one of the main musical epicentres of musical creation in Europe. Today, the Royal Opera offers 100 performances every season, staged operas or in concert version, recitals, plays and ballets: all the great names and international interpreters visit this prestigious stage. On the strength of these high-level experiences, the Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal was born, with the aim to adapt to the artistic projects organised at the Royal Opera and their guest artists.
